The Global Talent Independent program (subclass 858, formerly Distinguished Talent) is a fast-track permanent residence visa for highly skilled professionals who are internationally recognised as leaders in their field. It is one of the fastest skilled PR pathways, with priority processing.

Eligibility Requirements
- Internationally recognised: Outstanding record of achievement in your field, with evidence of being a leader
- Earnings: Currently earning or having an offer to earn at least AUD 167,500 per year (FY2026-27 threshold)
- Sector alignment: Working in one of the target sectors
- Not easily replaceable: Bringing skills that benefit Australia
- Meet health and character requirements
Application Process
- EOI Expression of Interest: Submit via the GTI portal with supporting documents (CV, evidence of achievements, sector justification)
- Invitation: Receive an invitation to apply if successful
- Visa application: Lodge complete subclass 858 application
- Decision: Priority processing, typically 3-6 months
