General Skilled Migration

Australia has a progressive migration system and allows qualified and skilled foreign nationals to apply for residency under the General Skilled Migration Program. If you meet the following requirements, you may be eligible.

• Are you under 50?

• Do you have a qualification and experience in a Skilled Occupation?

• Do you have competent English language skills?

• Are you healthy without any character issues?

If your application for a skilled visa is accepted you will be awarded permanent residency in Australia. That means you will be able to live, work and go to school in the country indefinitely. You will be entitled to receive public healthcare administered by the Australian government and any dependents between the ages of six and eighteen will be able to attend public (government run) schools.

The current cost for a skilled occupation visa is currently AU $3,060. This covers your family as well as yourself although there is an additional second visa application that must be paid if your dependents are over the age of 18 and have a less than functional understanding of English.

As a rule application fees go up slightly each year on 1 July.

There are other costs associated with your application that include but are not limited to: skills assessment; English language testing; medical examination; police clearance; certification and translation of your documents; and postage / courier costs.
